POP's Philly Steaks
$POP’s -- the Pride of Philadelphia, which has been called “the best Philly outside of Philly” by fans -- has been serving Philly phavorites from an A-frame anchored on the corner of Decatur Boulevard and Alta Drive since 2002, and has built such a local following that it now serves an average of 2,000 cheesesteaks a week.
The appeal is simple: cheesesteaks, cheesesteaks and more cheesesteaks, which POP’s offers in numerous varieties. You can get one plain -- boring! -- or with a choice of Cheez Whiz, American or provolone, which puts to rest the everlasting debate about which is authentic. Plus there are hoagie and pepperoni pizza versions, mushroom, green peppers and onions or any combination of the three, bacon and Swiss or three cheese and chili.
But POP’s doesn’t sing a one-note tune. There also are hoagies and grinders on the menu -- Philly pholks know the difference -- and snacks/starters such as wings, Cheez Whiz or chili-cheese fries, jalapeno poppers, fried okra, cauliflower, green beans, mushrooms, mozzarella or zucchini and a Philly Steak Salad.
