Guerrilla Pizza

$

Robby Cunningham has been making Detroit-style pizzas for a long time. He began (years ago) slinging pies for free, and giving them out to friends. Then, when the kitchen space at Hard Hat Lounge became available in 2020, the Detroit native snatched it up. Guerrilla Pizza opened Oct. 1, 2020, in the middle of the pandemic, and immediately garnered a loyal fan base.

Cunningham likens each pie to a Picasso. To him, each is a work of art. He starts with a layer of cheese on his dough canvas, before strategically placing toppings and then dolloping sauce. His square pies employ a perfect amount of oil to crisp the outside, while leaving the inside soft and chewy. The sauce has just the right tang. Finished with a generous dose of toppings, the result is the pizza of your dreams.

Guerrilla also offers “wild bread,” garlic knots, sausage rolls and poutine. And each month Robby gets creative with a mind-blowing special pie (Shepherd’s Pie Pizza, anyone?). The spot is also vegan-friendly and regularly nabs top honors for best vegan pie in town.
